How to get Driving License in Saudi Arabia

Why a Saudi Driving License in Saudi Arabia?

First of all we should answer a question that why someone in the Kingdom requires a driving license.
The reason is that the Saudi Law does allow to drive with an international driving license, so anyone in Kingdom that want to drive requires a Valid Saudi driving license. Also, fuel and cars are affordable , so if someone holds a driving license then it will be easy for him to move around in the Kingdom.

Procedure to get Saudi Driving License

In Riyadh, driving license is issued in Dallah Driving School

Fees: 100 SAR for 2 years, 200 SAR for 5 years, 400 SAR for 10 years.
(You can pay this fee before going to Driving School through SADAD payments or ATM against your Iqama number, or you can pay after your final try but if you pay at school you have to pay 20-30 SAR more than the actual fee as their commission who deposit fee at school)

After filling above mentioned form and getting your file prepared (having filled form, photocopies, Arabic translation of license, medical test reports, 4 passport size photographs ) you will go to Hall 2 of the school

In this hall , on the left side of entrance, a person will check your file and if it is OK then he will put a stamp on it for initial driving test. After that you will move to the right side of the entrance where a traffic police official will check your country's license and will put a stamp.
Now you will go for your initial try in hall 4.

Here a queue will be there, you wait for your turn.
That is just a formality and you have to move the car around a round about to just show the person sitting beside you that you know how to drive. (car will be with manual transmission not automatic- Toyota Camry )
Stay calm, put your seat belt, remove hand brake, move the car slowly (don't move with jerk), complete the round about, stop the car slowly, neutral the gear, pull the hand brake.
If you did it well, the man sitting beside you will put tick on alif in stamp (as in sample form, top most stamp)

  • Now move back to Hall 2 and pay your fee (100 SAR) for 1-Day compulsory class. The person at the counter will take your file along with your driving license of your country. He will give you a receipt. (Check date and time for your class)

Now its over for that day. Just go back home and come for your class on assigned time. (Most probably next day)

Usually It is in Hall 6
During the class, instructor will give you a page having road signs and general questions for your computer test.

After the class your receipt will be stamped ( triangular stamp in sample of receipt ) and you will be told about the timing of your computer test and final driving test in field.

Reach the Dallah Driving School on your test time (computer test and final try), usually before 7 A.M
and join the queue, after some time a person from the computer test room will collect your receipts and will call names for the computer test.
On your turn, enter in the computer test room, there will be 20 questions, you have to answer at least 15 right answers to qualify. Total time is 30 minutes. Test is very easy. Check your name on the screen before you start.
After the test, if you qualify, you will be given a printed paper on which you computer test result will be witten.

After getting this paper you will be guided to the driving field for your final try. Observe the people during the try before your turn for understanding the field. Wait for your turn.
You will be given your file before you get into the car. This time no one will sit with you (most probably). You have to drive in the field, obey the road signs during your test, don't forget seat belt. In the middle of your test you have to park your car in an assigned place. One person will be there to observe if you park correctly. When you park, he will take your file . After parking you have to move the car again and move to your starting point.

Here you will come out and go to the same room, where you were waiting for your computer test.
You will be given your file back. (If you qualify). With the result paper of your final try.
